Triple Nickel Driving Tour

Various Locations - Eastern Zone

About this event

Buckeye Chapter Members,

We are excited to announce the Triple Nickel Driving tour for 2025.  The tour features Ohio 555, Ohio 78 a.k.a "the rim of the world", and other great roads in and around Wayne National Forest.  Renowned as one of the most challenging roads in the United States, with elevation changes, cambered turns, and open sweepers, this is an excellent opportunity to experience the roller coaster sections of the Triple Nickel.  Refer to the article from Car and Driver.

For 2025 and beyond, difficulty levels will be specified for each driving tour.  Difficulty levels take into consideration the number and types of turns, elevation changes, tour duration, and the potential for motion sickness.  This is especially important for drivers who are considering passengers.  Level 1 is low, Level 2 is medium, and Level 3 is high.  The Triple Nickel is a Level 2 driving tour.

What to drive?  BMW club members are also automotive enthusiasts at heart.  Many own multiple brands and models of vehicles.  We encourage you to drive the vehicle of your choice and enjoy the experience.

The tour will originate at the Muskingum County Maintenance Lot in Zanesville, OH, located off I-70 at Exit 155.  We will meet at 8:15 AM, get situated, fuel up, confirm electronic waiver signatures, and begin the route at approximately 9:00 AM.   A Marathon station is located near the rendezvous location.

The morning segment is 110-miles south/southwest to Burr Oak Lodge where we will stop for lunch and relaxation.

An expansive paved parking area is located in front of the the lodge and restaurant.

The afternoon segment is 104-miles to Buckeye Lake for a final gathering at Buckeye Lake Winery.  Parking is located in front of the winery.

Important notes:

  • For those that cannot make the start of the drive, feel free to meet up with us anywhere along the route.  Drivers are also welcome peel off after lunch.  Please email me directly if making alternate plans.
  • With the exception of severe weather or related road condition issues, the tour will take place rain or shine.
  • Driving Directions:
Please refer to links below for turn by turn directions for each route segment.  These are much easier to follow with a navigator.  Google Maps links require some degree of interaction during the drive.  Rallista is a newer app that is designed for driving events and requires no intervention, and it is more accurate.  Both contain the same routes, so the choice is yours.
  • Zanesville to Burr Oak Lodge:
  • Burr Oak Lodge to Buckeye Lake Winery:
  • If you are interested in lodging, the provided hotels are located off I-70 at Exit 155, which are 1/2-mile from the morning rendezvous point.  If unfamiliar with the area, we can assist you with other lodging options.
