2023 BMW CCA Heart of Dixie Chapter

Sewanee and Suck Creek Mountain Fun Run

Saturday, October 21

Join us on Saturday, October 21st for a day long spirited driving tour with a lot of curvy road driving. This is one of the best routes we've taken, so you won't want to miss it.

Meet:  9:00 am.  Marathon Gas Station, 2064 Highway 72 E, Huntsville, AL 35811

Depart: 9:30 am.

Map of the Route

As we depart the Marathon Gas Station, we will drive the curvy roads of the Paint Rock Valley. If you joined us on the Uncle Nearest fun run, the first section of the drive will be familiar. But at the end of AL-65, we'll head east for all new roads. The easterly direction will have us climb up to Skyline where we'll pass through Hytop crossing into Tennessee. We'll continue to gradually climb the mountain on 20 miles of long sweepers before a rapid descent into Cowan, TN. As we pass through Cowen, we'll jump back into tight curves as we climb the mountain arriving in Sewanee.

The first stop will be at The Cross at Sewanee. We'll stop for 15-20 minutes, then continue on to Shenanigans where we'll stop for lunch. After lunch, you can choose to leave the group or continue on to one of the best roads in southern Tennessee - Suck Creek Rd.

After a quick stop at the Children's Holocaust Memorial, we will start the climb up Suck Creek Rd. across Signal Mountain. It's a fantastic, curvy, well paved road that's a lot of fun to drive. As a bonus, Kevin from Suck Creek Photos will be positioned along the route photographing your car as you drive by. Check out Kevin's website to see his work where you'll be able to order the images.

On the east side of the mountain, we'll re-group in the parking lot of the Suck Creek Baptist Church to conclude the drive. You can choose to continue into Chattanooga or reverse the route and head back up the mountain to enjoy the route from the other direction.

Note for lunch: Shenanigans has requested if you would like pizza for lunch for us to give them a count ahead of time as they make their own dough. When you register for lunch, please answer that question so we can help them. Otherwise, you'll choose from their menu at the restaurant.
